India

Are all Sri Lankan, Indian migrants ?

Most Sri Lankan Castes have their own origin stories and they all trace the origin to India. Even the castes that do not know how they originated, unless they claim to be the descendants of the Aboriginal Yakkas, Europeans, Arabs, Africans or Malays, they have to be also from India. The Vijaya migration story is also about a migration from India. However there isn't a single caste group in Sri Lanka that can legitimately claim a beastly origin from Sinhabahu or the lion of that story because Vijaya had only 2 children and they had become Veddahs See Lion myth

The Karava have their own unique story of origin from the MahabharataKauravas of the ancient Kuru Kingdom of India and many Karava clans trace this journey to Sri Lanka through the Coromandal (Kuru Mandalam) region of south-east India. See migration from India

What is the Caste system in India ?

In India too the framework of the Indian Caste system too is four fold, but due to its Hindu origin and sustenance, the Brahmin caste is the highest caste. Within the 4 main classifications there are thousands of sub castes. The 4 main caste groups in India are:

1.Brahmins - priests
2. Kshatriyas - Royals, nobles, warriors, land owners
3. Vaisya  -  Traders, land owners
4. Sudra  - workers
