Royalty

Who were the kings of Sri Lanka ?

The Kings of Sri Lanka were from royal dynasties - solar (sun) and  Lunar (moon) dynasties. That was the royal (Kshatriya ) caste. in all their ancient stone inscriptions the kings and queens call themselves Kshatriyas of the Surya (solar) or the Chandra (lunar) caste (vamsa). Kshatriya  caste in Sinhalese is Kath kula

Were they Sinhalese ?

None of the Kings of Sri Lanka have described themselves as Sinhalese in any of their ancient stone inscriptions . However they have all proudly proclaimed that they were from the Kshatriya solar (sun) and Lunar (moon) dynasties and their own royal houses such as Kalinga, Pandya, Sanagabodhi etc.

Sinhalese is a language. Not a race.

What is the royal connection of the Karawes ?

The Karavas are a warrior (Kshatriya) race and in this part of the world , the warriors and their leaders were the ones who waged wars, captured kingdoms and ruled them. As such naturally the kings of the region were from this caste.

Just like the kings and queens of Sri Lanka, the Karavas too trace their origin to the solar (sun) and Lunar (moon) royal dynasties

Is there any evidence that the Karawas are royalty ?

True to their traditional claims of royal ancestry, the Karavas are the only Sri Lankan community to have origin traditions of such nature, bear ancestral names ( see family names ) that signify a warrior heritage and royal ancestry, possess an array of ancient flags ( see Karava flags ) and use ancient royal symbols and flags (see royal insignia) at family ceremonies. Their inherent martial demeanor and fearless qualities also corroborate their claim.
